Allergic Diseases

We identify the causes of allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and hives, and provide guidance on management methods by considering test results together with your actual symptoms.

Allergy Testing and Treatment Guide

The cause or treatment is not determined based on test results alone. Please also tell us when the symptoms began, what substances you were exposed to, and which medications you take.

What is an allergy, and what substances can cause it?

These are diseases in which the immune system overreacts when exposed to certain substances, causing symptoms. Dust mites, pollen, mold, animal hair and dander, foods, and medications may be causes. For recurring rhinitis, hives, or skin symptoms, we check your exposure circumstances and medical history and evaluate them with the necessary tests.

What are the symptoms of allergic rhinitis?

Typical symptoms include sneezing, clear runny nose, nasal congestion, and itching inside the nose. A heavy feeling in the head, a sensation of secretions running down the back of the throat, and reduced concentration may also occur. Since allergies cannot be confirmed based on symptoms alone, please seek medical care if symptoms persist or interfere with daily life. It may be helpful to record the seasons and places where symptoms occur and the substances you were exposed to and bring this information with you.

What does the MAST test check?

This test uses blood to check for specific IgE responses to multiple allergens. The currently listed non-covered test is the MAST test for 179 allergens. It evaluates various groups of causes, including mites, mold, animal epithelium, tree, weed, and grass pollen, as well as foods. Please confirm the actual test panel and individual items when making an appointment. Positive results must be interpreted together with symptoms after actual exposure.

How are the test and consultation about the results conducted?

A small amount of blood is collected for testing. Results are expected in about 4~5 days, but this may vary depending on the testing laboratory’s schedule and other factors, so please confirm the result collection and consultation date. Please tell us about the medications you take and any previous allergy test results. Based on the test results, we will discuss which causative substances to avoid and plans for further evaluation and treatment.

How much does allergy testing cost?

The current listed non-covered cost for the MAST test for 179 allergens is 200,000 won. The actual amount you pay may vary depending on the purpose of the consultation, insurance coverage, and additional tests. Please confirm the test items and estimated cost at 02-6958-7070.

How are allergic rhinitis and skin symptoms treated?

We consider allergen avoidance and environmental management together with medication suited to your symptoms and condition. If a causative allergen such as dust mites is identified and your symptoms are consistent with the test results, we may evaluate whether you are a candidate for immunotherapy. Please also discuss the suitability and availability of individual injection treatments, such as Histobulin injections, during your consultation. Treatment choices and duration vary depending on the patient’s condition.

When is emergency medical care needed?

If you have difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat or lips, or systemic symptoms such as severe dizziness or fainting along with an allergic reaction, anaphylaxis is possible; immediately call 119 or seek emergency medical care. At a subsequent consultation, tell us about the suspected food, medication, or substance you were exposed to and any previous reactions.
